NSU Chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) launches

Chapter created by strategic communication students

Passionate about public relations? NSU students can now put their passion into practice by joining the newly launched NSU Chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America.

As the student affiliate of Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), PRSSA seeks to advance the public relations profession by developing ethically responsible pre-professionals through education, professional networking, and career opportunities.

During the Winter 2017 semester, NSU students in COMM 3200: Principles of Public Relations took on the task of launching the university’s chapter, applying the four-step public relations process of research, planning, implementation and evaluation.

“I’m so excited for this chapter to kick off,” said Brittany Eyres, communication major and president of NSU PRSSA. “Our class worked so hard on building it, and I think it’s great that communication students will have PR experiences outside of the classroom that they can bring into their future careers.”

Upon completing the application process through PRSSA National, the NSU chapter was awarded its charter approval in Fall 2017.

“I am so proud of the hard work these students put into launching this chapter,” said Assistant Professor Whitney Lehmann, Ph.D., of the Department of Writing and Communication, who serves as the faculty adviser for the NSU Chapter of PRSSA. “I am excited to watch NSU PRSSA grow into a engaged community of public relations pre-professionals.”

The chapter offers membership to both undergraduate and graduate students interested in the field of public relations. Scheduled events for the Winter 2018 semester include networking luncheons with the Fort Lauderdale Chapter of PRSA, a station visit to NBC6, a bowling social, public relations workshops and more.
