2017 NSU Multimedia Conference coming Jan. 28

On Saturday, Jan. 28, the 2017 NSU Multimedia Conference will bring various media professionals to NSU’s main campus for a series of presentations and workshops providing opportunities for high school, community college and NSU students to develop professionally. The conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in NSU’s Carl DeSantis Building and will feature more than 40 sessions on topics related to multimedia, as well as an internship fair and a media panel.

CAHSS welcomes artist/writer for lecture

DWC faculty members conducting new research

Through grants awarded by the National Council of Teachers of English, Department of Writing and Communication faculty members Shanti Bruce, Juliette Kitchens, Claire Lutkewitte, Molly Scanlon and Star Vanguri, all Ph.D.s, are conducting research during the 2016-2017 academic year that will help to advance NCTE’s mission of “improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education.”

CAHSS celebrates 2016 commencement

The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) celebrated commencement for graduate students with a June 16 buffet style reception at NSU's Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie. The reception and June 17 commencement ceremony at NSU marked the first group of CAHSS graduates following a university-wide reorganization of colleges and degree programs in 2015.

New issue of Digressions available

Digressions is the student-run literary magazine Of Nova Southeastern University, sponsored by the Department of Writing and Communication in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit original works of poetry, short fiction, creative essays, artwork, and photography for consideration in the magazine, which is published yearly in the winter semester.

CAHSS Student Presents at the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences in Denver

Laraysa Nugent, a spring graduate of the Criminal Justice program in the Department of Justice and Human Services in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences participated in the poster presentations at the Conference for the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) in Denver, CO. The conference was held on March 29-April 2, 2016. Her poster presentation title was, “Spatial analysis of uniform crime reports, crime clearance rates, and officer entry-level salaries.”

CAHSS Students in NIRA Receive Awards at the Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference in Charlotte, NC

The Nova International Relations Association (NIRA) is the Model United Nations team in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS). NIRA recently participated in the Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference in Charlotte, NC. This year’s theme was, “The United Nations at 70: Addressing the Changing Landscape of Peace, Security and Stability.”

CAHSS Distinguished Alum Invited to White House Roundtable on Criminal Justice Reform

Tony Gaskew, Ph.D., graduate of the doctoral program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution in the Department of Conflict Resolution Studies (DCRS) in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) was invited to the White House to participate in a roundtable on Criminal Justice Reform held on Thursday, May 5, 2016. Gaskew was one of 10 US educators invited to participate in the roundtable. He is an expert on prison education reform. Gaskew is also a graduate of the master’s in Criminal Justice in CAHSS’ Department of Justice and Human Services.

DJHS hosts National Memorial Conference

Nova Southeastern University’s Department of Justice and Human Services (DJHS) in the College of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences hosted over 200 firefighters and emergency services staff on campus on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. Titled “Surviving the Fire Service: A National Memorial Conference,” this inaugural event was held in the HPD Steele Auditorium from 9am – 5pm. Participants represented agencies from across the nation, including cities such as Houston, TX; Chicago, Il; New York, NY; as well as the state of Florida.

CAHSS recognizes Dean's List students

The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) honored over 50 undergraduate students and their families at the Dean’s List Awards Luncheon in the Atrium of the DeSantis Building. The event took place on the Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. The students who were honored earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the fall 2015 semester and were recognized for this achievement.

TEDxNSU is an annual event, featuring engaging lectures, videos, visual art, and interactive experiences at Nova Southeastern University under the direction of associate professors Leanne Boucher and W. Matthew Collins. TEDxNSU showcases "ideas worth spreading" from members of our diverse university community. Thought-provoking events like TEDxNSU support the college's aim to encourage intellectual exploration and the sharing of ideas amongst students, faculty and staff, and members of the local community. TEDxNSU expands this reach to a global audience with videos of the lectures available on YouTube.

CAHSS Faculty Named 2016 SWCA Achievement Award Recipient
