Professional Interests

Xiao Wang, Ph.D., is an adjunct professor at NSU and a senior professor of English at Broward College, where she won Teaching Excellent Award and The Vivian Dellinger Outstanding Faculty Award from the Association of Florida Colleges. Dr. Wang has taught both freshman and ESL Composition courses at St. Cloud State, Ball State, and Arizona State universities. She has published scholarly articles on Composition as well as teaching composition to multilingual students. Her textbook, English Composition, is in its fourth edition. Dr. Wang is currently working on the book Writing about Literature, to be published in the fall of 2017 by Kendall Hunt.

Dr. Wang’s teaching interests include Basic Writing, Business Writing, Argumentative Writing, Freshman Reading and Writing, ESL Language Arts, British Literature, American Literature, Composition Theory, 19th Century Composition. Dr. Wang’s research interests lie in Comparative Literature, Contrastive Rhetoric, Asian-American Writers, Rhetorical History, and Classical Rhetoric. Her dissertation uses the context-sensitive textual analysis and interpretations of ethnographic study to make connections between the interlanguage characteristics of the Chinese-American college writers’ texts and their cultural values and linguistic backgrounds. Dr. Wang has given numerous presentations about her scholarly work at such conferences as the College Composition and Communication, Rhetoric Society of America, and International Linguistics.
