Professional Interests
Gary P. Gershman, Ph.D., focuses on civil rights and civil liberties, and American social and cultural history. In teaching and studying these topics he has written two books: The Death Penalty on Trial and The Congress. In addition, he has published articles on an array of topics most recently in sports history where his most recent research is focused on the history of sports rivalry in the United States, looking at its cultural, economic and social roots.
Dr. Gershman has taught a wide variety of classes at NSU including American history, American Government, Constitutional History, Civil and Political Liberties, as well as courses in Crime and Punishment, Sports and History, the Balkans and the Holocaust. He also leads a study travel class on genocide (visiting Poland, Serbia and Bosnia).
