Professional Interests

Melissa Bianchi, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Writing and Communication in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. She teaches undergraduate composition courses about a wide range of topics, including digital technologies, game studies, visual culture, nature writing, and animal studies. She received her Ph.D. in English from the University of Florida in 2018.

Dr. Bianchi’s scholarship focuses on the intersections between rhetoric and composition, writing pedagogy, digital media studies, and ecocriticism. Her work in these fields takes many different forms. She has produced several collaborative digital projects with her colleagues at the University of Florida, including two augmented reality mobile applications (Super PAC Scramble and SeeWorld) and an online journal (Trace). These collaborations explore practical applications for new technologies in humanities scholarship. Dr. Bianchi is also interested in the writing and rhetoric of computer games. She has presented her research on this topic at national and international conferences, and it has also been published in referred journals, such as Green Letters (2017), Ecozon@ (2017), Revenant (2016), and others. Her latest works will appear in the following edited collections: Madness in the Woods (Lexington Books), EcoComix (McFarland), and Mediating Nature (Routledge).
