There's nothing better than enjoying ice cream on a hot summer day, and NSU is giving you the opportunity to make your own! The Department of Writing and Communication is excited to offer a weeklong (9am-12pm) Ice Cream Entrepreneur Program for high school students with an interest in communication skills, advertising, business, branding, and public relations. Student teams will spend four days of the week learning how to create and launch a new ice cream flavor in partnership with Yo Mama’s Ice Cream of Fort Lauderdale. On the final day, students will deliver an oral presentation pitching their ice cream flavor to a panel of judges. The winning flavor will have the opportunity to be produced locally by Yo Mama’s.

Participants will:

  • Receive a certificate upon completion
  • Work with NSU professors and business professionals to develop their product
  • Advance their creative skills in advertising, branding, and oral presentations
  • Practice experiential learning and critical thinking in a college setting
  • Eat ice cream with University VIPs and local entrepreneurs at the program’s conclusion

The Ice Cream Entrepreneur Program 2018 dates will be announced in the future.
  • The NSU Ice Cream Entrepreneurial Program will spend three days – Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the Parker Building (Room 127C) on the campus of Nova Southeastern University (3301 College Avenue, Davie FL 33314) where ample parking is available. Click here for parking directions.
  • The Program will spend two days – Tuesday and Thursday – on-site at Yo Mama’s Ice Cream (901 Sunrise Lane in Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304) where street parking and parking lots are available.
The NSU Ice Cream Entrepreneurial Program is intended for, but not limited to, high school students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2017. The number of participants will be limited to a maximum of 20, to allow for focused attention and support during the week. To see the program policies, click here.
Free. The NSU Ice Cream Entrepreneurial Program is sponsored this year by the Department of Writing and Communication and Pearson Education.

Participants who wish to apply must submit the following items no later than Monday, July 17, 2017. Registration will occur on a “rolling admissions” basis until we reach maximum capacity of twenty students.
