Professional Interests

Elena Maria Garcia holds a Bachelor's in Theatre from the University of Florida and a Master's in Acting/Directing from Florida Atlantic University. She is the Artistic Director of Underdog Productions, Inc. and is the co-founder and Director of Education for Universal Acting. She is a three-time recipient of the prestigious Carbonell award for best supporting actor and ensemble. Garcia has written, directed, and produced a one-person show, DO YOU SPEAK MEXICAN? She will premiere her one-person show (co-written with Stuart Meltzer), FUACATA, or A Latina's Guide to Surviving the Universe at the Arsht Center. She is the founding member of Separate Checks Improv Troupe, Quien Sigue A Quien (the first Spanish speaking improv troupe in the US), and the first all-female improv troupe on the East coast, Big Purse and Matching Shoes. Garcia has appeared in numerous national commercials, feature films and television. She has taught improvisation and acting for over 25 years. She currently teaches at Universal Acting, Nova Southeastern University, Florida International University, and New World School of the Arts, and is a member of Screen Actor’s Guild and Actors’ Equity.
