B.S. in Legal Studies

Interested in law school, politics, or public affairs? With a Legal Studies major, you’ll develop a firm understanding of the law. Enthusiastic professors inspire you to develop strong communication skills, critical thinking, and an understanding of the social and political context of legal issues.

What you'll study
Explore philosophy to build analytical and logical thinking skills. You'll examine argumentation, politics, and ethics to understand their functions in law. A pre-law track and an international law track focus your attention on national and world history and government. Students may pursue a practical internship outside the classroom and take advanced courses in First Amendment rights and war crimes.

How you'll learn more
The legal studies major is truly interdisciplinary with elements of communication, philosophy, history, political science, and literature. NSU’s own law school provides exceptional resources. Special NSU programs offer interaction with judges, attorneys, public officials, and other pivotal figures in the legal community. A free annual seminar prepares pre-law students to help them gain acceptance into law school.

Where it can take you
No area of human endeavor is untouched by the law. The bachelor’s degree in legal studies prepares students for law school and an array of related professions in trade, politics, business, public affairs, and public service. Besides law school, consider other graduate programs in politics, management, international affairs, and nonprofit operations.
